John R. Collins

John R. Collins, 93 of Monticello, Ark. went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 5, 2013 in Bauxite, Ark. He was born April 9, 1920 at Tyro, Ark., to the late Fay Hemstead and Ida Elizabeth Morgan Collins. He was a World War II veteran having served as a member of the 34th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Ribbon and the Purple Heart. He was a retired painting contractor, a member of the VFW, an active member of the American Legion for fifty two years and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Monticello. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, F.H Collins and R.L. Collins. Survivors include his wife, Bivian Wilson Collins; two daughters, Barbara Mejia of Bauxite, AR and Devera Smith and husband, Ray of Little Rock; four sons, Ray Collins and wife, June of Dumas, Fay Collins and wife Dottie of Dumas, Jimmy Collins and wife, Monita of Hot Springs Village and Randy John Collins and wife, Jenny of Dumas; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 1 p.m., Friday, November 8, 2013 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday.
