Johnnie M. Walter Jr.

Johnnie Martin Walter Jr., 91 of Conway, Ark. went home on November 5, 2013. He was born in Conway, AR on October 8, 1922. He was the son of the late John and Josephine (Rumker) Walter Sr. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved providing for his large family. He was an active lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the Army's 84th Infantry Division (The Rail Splitters), a veteran of WWII, received the Purple Heart, Honorable discharge in June of 1945, a graduate of St. Joseph High School, a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a Produce Manager at Simon's Grocery, a self-employed painter, and known for his vegetable gardening, homemade wines and beef jerky. Johnnie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary (Partin) Walter of 66 years, his parents, brothers Deiderick Walter, Peter Walter, Edward Walter, Martin Walter, and a sister Catherine (Sr. Richard) Walter. Survivors include his children: Michael Walter (Mary), Christopher Walter (Debbie), Richard Walter (Shari), John Walter III (Paolo Wakham), Cathy Mixon (Clarke), Elizabeth Shea (Pat), Sharron Walter, and Robyn Kyzer (George), one brother Fredrich Walter, six sisters, Mary Stephens, Hildegarde Hoyt, Frances McCaig, Josephine Wood, Margaret Parks, Martha Lock, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The Rosary is at 6 p.m. Thursday November 7, 2013, followed by visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday November 8, 2013, also at the church. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jacob Kyzer, Lucas Kyzer, Shawn Walter, Quay Mixon, Mitchell Shea and Matthew Shea. Interment will take place following the Mass at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to be made to the St. Joseph School Endowment.
