Dan R. Grounds, 88, of Ashdown, Ark., died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, in a local hospital. Mr. Grounds was born on July 3, 1925, in Hugo, Oklahoma. He was a master carpenter and founded Grounds Construction, building custom homes. He was a Deacon and faithful member of First Baptist Church. He served his country in WWII as a member of the Army. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, killing his largest deer at the age of 87. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, known to them as "Daddy Dan." He was preceded in death by his parents, Eula and Dan Grounds Sr. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Edd Grounds of Ashdown, Ark.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Jo Grounds of Little Rock, Ark., Kenny and Sherry Grounds of Ashdown, Ark., Richard and Lana Grounds of Ashdown, Ark.; four sisters, Ruth Walker of Ashdown, Ark., Lois McGraw of Ashdown, Ark., Carol Jean Stephens (Jere) of Ashdown, Ark., Catherine Ann Black (Buddy) of Fayetteville, Ark.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2013 at First Baptist Church, Ashdown, with Butch Riddle officiating. Burial will be in the Ashdown Cemetery under the direction of Madden Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Madden Funeral Home in Ashdown, Ark. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Ashdown, Ark.
