Frances Elizabeth (Betty Fran Berry) Toney, 83, of Hot Springs Village, Ark. went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 27, 2013. She was born on September 17, 1930, to Walter and Olive Berry of Warren, Arkansas. They later moved to Crossett where she was a graduate of Crossett High School, Class of 1948. While in high school, "Betty Fran" played a coronet in the band and was a drum majorette. She was "Miss Crossett" in 1947, marrying her high school sweetheart, Henry Clay Toney, Sr. on December 27, 1947. In 1953, they and their three children moved to Toledo, Ohio. Later Mrs. Toney graduated from the College of Education at the University of Toledo in 1964. She then spent nearly 30 years teaching second grade at Whittier Elementary School in Toledo, Ohio. She loved the children she worked with and was well loved in return. She was especially good at managing and endearing children with social issues. Mrs. Toney is remembered by her family and friends as being fun-loving and playful, spiritual, insightful, honest, hard-working, trustworthy, loyal, generous, kind and gracious. She loved travel, Bridge, puzzles, music, soap operas, and golf. She and her husband retired to Lake Lure, N.C., and then to Hot Springs Village, Ark. She is preceded in death by her mother, Olive Myrtle (Grasby) Berry and her father Walter Thomas Berry. Survivors included, Henry Clay Toney, Sr., her husband of nearly 66 years, her children, Patricia C. Myers, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Henry Clay (Victoria) Toney, Jr., of Ozone, Ark., and Elizabeth (Paul) Kaseman, of Tecumseh, Mich., as well as 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and her brother Thomas Harold (Betty) Berry of Saginaw, Texas, and his family. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Toby Austin officiating. Interment will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. (www.jonesservice.com).
