Maurice Helms

Maurice Helms, 74, of Higden, Arkansas passed peacefully at home on Thursday, November 28, 2013. He was born to Arvie and Julia Helms in 1939. Maurice was considered a wonderful friend by many and enjoyed the simple moments with those he loved. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was intelligent and intuitive. He would do anything for the people he loved. Maurice loved life. He was amazing at making homemade rolls and he was an excellent wood craftsman. He never missed an opportunity to go fishing, and Maurice was the first person friends would call for the latest fishing report. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Aubrey Terrell Helms. He is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Carol Helms; four children: David T. Helms, Deborah Gilliam Wolfe (Courtney) Sheppard, Cristy (Ben) Harris, and James R. Gilliam, Jr.; four grandchildren: Jason Wolfe, Robin Moye, Justin Rayburn, and Abraham Madron; three great-grandchildren: Hadyn Moye, Jayla Chase, and Ximena Toledo; one sister, Maida (Jim) Sullivan; and many friends. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Oak Grove Church in Drasco. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with interment following in Concord Cemetery.
