Roy C. McCallie

Roy C. McCallie, 76, of Arkansas City passed away September 9, 2013. He was born to C.W. and Ruby McCallie on February 2, 1937 in Stuttgart, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Patsy McCallie and his brother Louis McCallie. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Becky Springer McCallie; one son, Wayne (Becky) McCallie of Arkansas City; one daughter, Carol (Eddie) Cruce of Monticello; grandchildren, Jason (Kirby) McCallie of Arkansas City, Blake McCallie of Russellville, McKinze James, Reuel (Kelsey) Cruce, Allison (Matt) Birch and five great grandchildren all of Monticello; three brothers, Ray (Cynthia) McCallie of Arkansas City, Dale (Lana) McCallie of Irving, Texas, Don (Peggy) McCallie of Dittmer, Mo., Judy (Frank) Appleberry of Tillar, Pat McCallie, and numerous nieces and nephews. Other survivors include lifelong friends, Dr. James and Johnnie Young of McGehee, and his dear caregiver, Keunna Thomas of Monticello. Roy was a life long farmer, an avid hunter and a member of Arkansas City Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Roy served as a board member of Arkansas City School District, Desha County Farm Bureau and Farmers Butane. Roy was a 32nd degree Mason and a Gideon. He also served as a member of the National Guard and Desha County Sheriff's Patrol. Services are under the direction of Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home of Monticello. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 10 at Arkansas City Baptist Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Arkansas City Baptist Church.
