Inetta Sitton Vest

Inetta Sitton Vest of Little Rock died December 26, 2014. She was the wife of Boss Elder Vest, who preceded her in death, and the daughter of Velma Hardcastle Sitton and George Conner Sitton. She leaves behind to mourn her memory: two sons and their families - Kenneth and his wife Mary Ann and their two children, Christian and Veronica of Hot Springs, Ark. and Patrick and his son Casey of Honolulu, Hawaii; two brothers, William Sitton of Oklahoma and A.C. Sitton of California; and and one sister, Barbara Blades, of Florida. She was two years old when she lived in Little Rock with her mother, father, and brother, Garnel. It was at this time her mother died following a fall and operation. Her father and the two children then returned to Benton County, Ark. where they had a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, and their grandparents, all of whom were a major part of her life until she graduated from high school in Gentry, Ark. Following graduation, she attended the Protestant School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon completion, she returned to Arkansas and accepted a position with the Arkansas Public Health Department as a public health nurse in Sharp County. During her first year, she met and married Boss Elder Vest who was a teacher and boys basketball coach with the Cave City Schools. At the end of her first year, she was granted a scholarship to attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She was joined there by her husband who attended Peabody Teacher's College nearby. At the end of that year she returned to Desha County, Arkansas as a public health nurse, and her husband was accepted as a cadet in the Army Air Corps. She was soon granted leave to join him in Jackson, MS, where he was in primary flight school. Then followed thirty-two years as an Air Force pilot's wife at numerous Air Force bases except when he had combat assignments. This included four years in Germany and four years in Hawaii. She attended local colleges and universities wherever they were stationed and eventually completed an academic degree at Chaminade University while in Hawaii. Upon Colonel Vest's retirement they returned to their home state of Arkansas, and she accepted a position at the North Little Rock Veterans Hospital where she was employed until her retirement. In the last years of her life she moved to Hot Springs to be close to her family. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the many friendships and kindnesses shown her by the Bob Millet Class of Lakewood Methodist Church, the Agape Class of St. James United Methodist Church in Little Rock, The University Women of Little Rock, and especially, the Welcome Wagon of Little Rock. Her family would also like to thank Garrett Manor, Comfort at Home Senior Care, The Caring Place, Dierksen Hospice, Dr. Lai, Dr. Minor, and Dr. Bruce Smith. The family will hold a military service in the Arlington National Cemetery in recognition of Colonel Vest's thirty-two years of service, including combat in World War II and in Vietnam. The date and time for the service have not been determined. Local arrangements are in the care of Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark. 72211, (501) 224-8300.
