Jim Caldwell, 79, of Pine Bluff, passed away Christmas morning, December 25, 2014. Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Norma; his three children, Jeffrey, Jon Daniel, and Juliana; his five grandchildren, Alyssa, Hannah, Robert, Andrew, and Joshua; his three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Caroline, and Eleanor; and his nine brothers and sisters, Jerry, JoAnn, Randal, Dorma, Arthur, Bobby, Ronald, Kathi, and Max. Jimmy Dudley Caldwell was born in Cross County, Arkansas, July 21, 1935, and was the son of Preston "Chat" Caldwell and Lucille Rose Caldwell of Wynne. Jim and Norma Jane Lloyd exchanged valentines in the sixth grade. Jim raised hundreds of millions of dollars, mostly in Arkansas. The United Way of Southeast Arkansas currently serves 25 non-profit agencies. Jim completed 24 United Way campaigns in Pine Bluff and met goal 21 times. Jim directed the planning for Pine Bluff's Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center and obtained $10,600,000. The center now houses 13 non-profit agencies and represents the most money ever spent at one time in downtown Pine Bluff. Jim often said he would rather raise money in Pine Bluff than anywhere else. His family knows how important Jim's work was to him and asks that the community unite to meet this year's United Way goal. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff Sunday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. The service will be held on the 60th anniversary of Jim and Norma's marriage at 10 a.m. Monday, December 29th at First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, on Hazel Street, with Reverend Kenneth Thornton officiating. The graveside service will be at Crosslawn Cemetery near Wynne at 3 p.m. followed by a reception at Wynne Baptist Church.
