Mr. A.D. Brannan, age 88, passed away in Shreveport, La. after a short illness on Christmas Day. A.D. was predeceased by his parents, Ruby and Al Brannan; his brother, Orval Brannan and his first wife, Gene Brannan. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Brannan of Shreveport; two sons and their wives, Hank and Sandy Arrington of New Orleans and Chuck and Suzanne Arrington of Little Rock; six grandchildren, Chuck Brummer, Bill Brummer, Hank Arrington, Frank Arrington, Aimee Parkinson and Allison Ridings; 12 great-grandchildren; his brother and his wife, Johnny and Linda Brannan of Prescott; sister-in-law, Barbara Brannan of Hot Springs Village as well as many nieces and nephews. A.D. led a wonderful life and leaves behind many fond memories for all those who loved him. He was born in Hope, Ark. on June 8, 1926 and lived in Hope all his early life. After graduation from Hope High School, he joined the Merchant Marines, where he served for two years, including the last six months of World War II. After the war, he attended the University of Arkansas for a year before transferring to Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma State) from which he graduated in 1950. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, but before completing flight school he received an Honorable Discharge to help his brother in business. A.D. later enjoyed a long career in the Shreveport oil industry. A.D. and Gene Arrington were married in 1959 and he took on the responsibility of helping raise he two sons and loved them well for the next 55 years. A.D. married Barbara Richards in 1999, whom he loved until his passing. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church 500 Common Street, Shreveport, LA 71101. The funeral service will be at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope, Ark. on Monday, Dec. 29. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., with the service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow immediately at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hope.
