Chaplain Colonel Billy Howard Cox (U.S. Army retired) of Jacksonville, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the age of 85. He was born February 27, 1928 in Huntsville to the late Roscoe Harrison Cox and Laura Calico Cox. After graduating from Hendrix College where he played basketball, he attended seminary and earned his Master's Degree from Southern Methodist University. Reverend Cox served as a United Methodist minister for 67 years, 29 of which were as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, Reverend Cox was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Bobby Cox. Reverend Cox is survived by his wife, Delle Woodard Cox; four sons, William Howard Cox and Timothy Christian Cox, both of Nashville, Tennessee, Thomas Whitney Cox of Graham, North Carolina and Jonathan Marcus Cox of Fairview, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren and one sister, Betty Gaskill of Huntsville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home (501) 982-2136 with funeral services beginning at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2014.
