Betty Cothren Glasscock

Betty Cothren Glasscock, age 84, of Little Rock passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock after a two month battle with pneumonia. She was born August 27, 1929 to Griffin and Ina Cothren and was raised in the Morning Star community near Paragould, Arkansas. Betty graduated from Lakeside High School in 1947 and later moved to Little Rock where she met her partner for life, Dewey Glasscock. They were married in 1949 and lived in several states before returning to Little Rock in 1959. Betty was a Christian and a very active member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Above all, she loved her family and they will all miss her dearly. In retirement, Betty devoted much time to becoming a Lifetime Master Gardener. She served at the greenhouse on the grounds of UAMS as a volunteer and was a member of the Greenhouse Committee. She enjoyed traveling on Master Gardener tours, nationally and internationally, visiting botanical gardens. She was a longtime member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class at Pulaski Heights Methodist and devoted much effort to planning trips for the Primetimers Group. Betty's favorite leisure activity was reading books and meeting with her book club, Thursday Afternoon Ladies Literary Club. Betty is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dewey, and four children: Calvin (Chrissy); Paul (Sue); Carobeth Kelly (John) and Susan Gammill and nine grandchildren (by age) Daniel Glasscock, Gregory Glasscock, Max Duerr, Sarah Gammill, Ryan Kelly, Jason Gammill, Jack Kelly, Mackenzie Glasscock and James Glasscock. She is also survived by her siblings Wava Lewis, Winford Cothren, James Cothren , Carolyn Anderson, Larry Cothren and Rita Moore; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Shirley Maher and Sheila Mode. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, February 13th at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 West Markham Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205 (501-666-0123). Betty's funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 14th at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church (4823 Woodlawn Drive, Little Rock), followed by a reception in the church parlor. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park (7401 Highway 5 North, Alexander, Ark).
