Lera Ruth Merritt

Lera Ruble Merritt, age 86, of North Little Rock, AR joined a host of her family and friends in Heaven on February 10, 2014. She is predeceased by her parents, John B. and Gertie Ruble, her Husband, E.T. Merritt and son-in-law, Michael T. Sherwood. Born November 1, 1927, Lera graduated from Wheatley High School in 1945. She moved to Little Rock where she attended Draughn Business School. She worked in banking and finance throughout her career. She worked at Worthen Bank until the birth of her daughter and returned to work at Commonwealth Federal Savings and Loan in 1972 and retired from Superior Federal Savings and Loan in 1992 as an assistant branch manager and customer service representative. Lera enjoyed her family and friends, loved to play games with her sisters and loved to travel. She enjoyed traveling and going on bus trips with the Assembly of God travel group. One of the highlights of her life was a trip to Hawaii in 2004. Her greatest joy was in her role as grandmother. She was the "Nanny Rabbit". Lera is survived by her daughter, Sara F. Merritt, the absolute love of her life, her only granddaughter, Mary Scarlett Sherwood, and her two sisters, Emma Jane Bain of Houston, Freddie Ruble Grimmett of Fort Smith and a host of nieces and nephews. Lera was a member of Levy Baptist Church in North Little Rock. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 15th from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Griffin and Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock. A celebration of her life will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Reverend Otto Brown will officiate. Memorials may be made to Levy Baptist Church.
