Curtis Chambers Jr.

Curtis Chambers Jr. was born Feb. 03, 1948 in Helena, Ark. to Curtis Chambers Sr. and Hazel Cook Chambers. Curtis Jr. was the oldest of all his siblings. He was raised in LaGrange, Ark. and recived his nickname " Kurt" by his friends. He accepted Christ into his heart as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Mt. Perion Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Robert R. Moton High School on May 10, 1969. He married Frances Farris to this union, four children were born. Curtis joined the United States Army. He served two Tours in the Vietnam War where he earned a Purple Heart because the base was over ran by NVN's through hostile fire with hand to hand combat. He also received numerous other Medals. After the war he worked for Holst Stead and other plants around Forrest City and Wynne. Curtis never lost his faith in Jesus Christ. He became a member of Faith Outreach Church in Helena, Ark. under the leadership of Pastor Jim Harrison. At the age of 65, Curtis passed away at his home in Marianna, Ark. His wife, children, and grandchildren surrounded him to give him strength, love, and consolation as he made his transition to be with the Lord. Curtis was a man of integrity. He was trustworthy, loving, and very generous. He loved praying, talking and spending quality time with his children. He became a loving man, a caring brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend. He is survived by his wife, Frances Chambers; two sons, Deion Chambers of Marianna, Ark., Jason R. Chambers of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Judy E. Chambers, of Marianna, Ark.; his parents, Curtis and Hazel Chambers, of LaGrange, Ark.; four grandchildren, Nalisa Green Wade(Troy) of Virginia, Joshua Chambers of Indianapolis, Ind., Jodeci Fowler and Aya White of Marianna, Ark.; four great- grandchildren, Akyla Wade and Jaelyn Wade of Virginia, Ja Hynia Fowler of Marianna, Ark. and Rashaad Fowler of Jonesboro, Ark.; four sisters, Delois and Cathy Chambers of Detroit, Mich., Eliza Young (Lynn) of Longview, Texas, Twanna Chambers of Helena, Ark.; six brothers, Marcus Chambers of St. Louis, Mo., Larry Chambers of Detroit, Mich., Wille Chambers of Forrest City, Ark., Danny C. Chambers (Mable) of Denver, Colo., Otis B. Chambers (Thalia) of Houston, Texas; six aunties, Carolyn Taylor and Hazel Gilbert of Little Rock, Ark., Essie Davis of Chicago, Ill., Debera Currth and Eddie J Jones of St. Louis, Mo.; two uncles, Joe of Mississippi, James of St. Louis, Mo.; five sister-in–laws, Lillie Brown, Peggy Burns, Doris Byars, Mary Nelson, Alberta Robinson, Mary Lawson, Debra Lucky; eight brother-in–laws, Pete Farris, Bobby Farris, Jerry Farris, Calvin Farris, and Dennis, Ronny, Bobby and Nathaniel Lawson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Demond Chambers; and three brothers, Davis, Stanley and Joe Chambers. Services for Curtis Jr. will be held Saturday, Jan. 04, 2014 at 1st Baptist Church in Marianna, Ark. at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 03, 2014 from 5-9 p.m. at Roller–Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna.
