Albert Argene (Squeaky) English, 84, of Damascus, passed from this life on January 6, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born in Hatfield, Arkansas on October 30, 1929, to the late Maggie Lee English & Ester Lee (Ed) English, he lived most of his life in Damascus. Squeaky truly loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and caring for his land and animals. He believed strongly in the importance of providing a home and security for his family and modeled a strong work ethic and accountability to his children and grandchildren. In line with his love of the outdoors, Squeaky worked in California in the oil fields and in Kansas in construction before learning his trade of carpentry as a young man through Faucett Homebuilders in Little Rock. Later he worked on the construction of the Arkansas River Navigation Project and for Sterling/Magic Mart traveling throughout the south and mid-west managing their store renovations. He exhibited a natural talent for his carpentry craft and became known not only for his ability to "build anything," but for his superb quality and precision. His craftsmanship and legacy will live on in the homes that he built for his family, his notorious "underground" home, and the houses he built for friends in and around Damascus after his "retirement." He is survived by the mother of his children and wife of 32 years, Ann English of Conway; his children, Don English (Dee Ann) of Center Ridge, Shirley Wulf (Patrick) of Atlanta, Patsy Ward of Conway; and his grandchildren Kimberly Sterling (Victor) of Greenbrier, Kristy Hulbert (Brian) of Conway, Jeff English (Crystal) of Center Ridge, Travis Ward, (Crystal) of Damascus, Ashley Ward of Conway, Carrie Simmons (John) of Bee Branch, Brittany Wulf, of Atlanta, Alexis Wulf of Atlanta and one step granddaughter, Kerri Harris of Mablevale; seven great-grandchildren, Anna Hulbert, Timothy Ward, Kelsey Hulbert, Ethan Ward, Kevin Sterling, Seth Simmons, Cade Simmons; and two step great-grandchildren, Reanon Harris and Shaynlea Wooten. He is also survived by his sister, Johnnie Shofner of Damascus and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Squeaky is preceded in death by his mother and father; his twin brother, Elbert Eugene English; one sister, Kathryn Wolfe; and two brothers, Eubon English and Robert English. Squeaky was a member of the Damascus Church of Christ. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Brother Freddie Mark Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow at Spires Cemetery in Damascus. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Arkansas Hospice for their support and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 1105 Deer Street, Suite 10, Conway, Arkansas 72032. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com.
