Clyde Dickens Calliotte

Clyde Dickens Calliotte, formerly of Little Rock, died peacefully on June 9, 2014 at Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester, Massachusetts, where she had moved five years earlier to be near her daughter. She would have been 95 on June 28. Mrs. Calliotte was born and grew up in the Sharman Community south of Magnolia, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Walton Clyde Dickens and Hattie Thomas Dickens. She had three sisters with whom she was very close: the late Mabel Wallace, of Columbus, Mississippi; the late Maude Hudnall, of Taylor, Arkansas; and the late Irma Channell, of McKamie, Arkansas, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who were extremely important to her. Mrs. Calliotte graduated from Arkansas A&M College in Magnolia (now Southern Arkansas University), and Draughon School of Business in Little Rock. After moving to Little Rock, she attended Arkansas Law School, graduating as co-valedictorian of her class. While attending Draughon, she met her future husband, William Louis Calliotte, of Stuttgart, Arkansas. The couple were married on April 30, 1949, and had two children, Jim and Carol. Jim lives in Nuremberg, Germany, and has two children, Josephine and Ann-Kristin. Carol lives in Arlington, Massachusetts, with her husband, Walter Horn, and their two children, Emma and Chloe. Mrs. Calliotte had a distinguished legal career in the public sector, much of it while raising the couple's children. She served as Assistant Attorney General; as law clerk for several justices of the Arkansas Supreme Court; as Master in Chancery; as law clerk for Judge Pat Mahaffey of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals; as the first Director of Consumer Protection in the Arkansas Attorney General's Office; and as Reporter of Decisions for the Arkansas Reports. Mrs. Calliotte was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Little Rock for over 50 years. She was also an avid Arkansas Razorback fan and a proud promoter of all things Arkansas. Visitation will be at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, on Saturday, June 14, 2014, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 6401 West 32nd Street, Little Rock, on the same day, June 14, at 4 p.m., with a light supper to follow at the church. Burial will be at Sharman Cemetery, 5270 Columbia Road 1, Taylor Arkansas, on Sunday, June 15, at 2 p.m. All family and friends who are able are invited to attend.
