Lavon Bridges

Lavon Bridges, 82, died Tuesday. He was born Oct. 3, 1931 in Rocky Point, Ark. to the late Ralph and Inez (Whittenburg) Bridges. Lavon graduated from Bald Knob High School and later graduated from Arkansas State Teacher's College with a Bachelors degree in accounting. He worked for the state of Arkansas for 27 years. Many of those years were spent as the supervisor of the sales tax auditors division. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of the Bald Knob United Methodist Church and the Bald Knob Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Frances (Adair) Bridges; two children, Tomilee Merrick and Chris Hill; two grandchildren, Haley and Tyler Merrick; siblings, Sue Johnson (Kenneth), Wincel O'Brien, and Mary Alice Western. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Carl Wayne Bridges. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Powell Funeral Home in Bald Knob.
