Clinton Monroe Carey

Rev. Clinton Monroe Carey was born Aug. 7, 1921 in Union County, Ark., the son of the late James Arzo and Sarah Self Carey. He was a retired Assembly of God minister, having served 57 years as a church pastor. He began his work as a minister in El Dorado in 1944, and also pastored in Lake Village, Hamburg, Hampton, Malvern, Redfield, Foreman, Alleene, Curtis and Grapevine churches. He retired May 27, 2001. He served on the Grant County Quorum Court as a Justice of the Peace for several years as a representative for Calvert and Darysaw townships. Clinton died at home, peacefully in his sleep, on March 8, 2014 at the age of 92 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Marlon; three brothers, Elmer, Dewey and Elton Carey; two sisters, Loy Harris and Virgie Fife. Clinton is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen Virginia (Powell) Carey; one son, Randall (Janie) Carey of Grapevine; three daughters, Joann Hedden of Grapevine, Betty (Porter) Pruitt of Sheridan, Trudy (Tom) Greene of Lenoir, N.C.; two sisters, Odell Perry of El Dorado, and Mabel Pittman of Camden; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who loved him very much. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Cottrell and Rev. Ronald Grundy officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11 until service time. Burial will be at Hedden Chapel Cemetery in Grapevine. Pallbearers will be Arnold Harden, John Heath, Justin Wood, Jeff Hedden, Darrell Hedden, Dwight Hedden, Nicholas Clark and Burt Hood.
