William Hunt "Bill" Brookshire

William Hunt "Bill" Brookshire, 87, of Pine Bluff died Oct. 9. Born in Pine Bluff June 26, 1927, a son of John Anthony and Lena Brooks Brookshire, Bill grew up in Pine Bluff and was a 1945 Pine Bluff High School graduate. Joining the US Navy, he steamed into Tokyo Harbor aboard the USS Casablanca at the end of WWII. He married Helen Juanita Watts on June 27, 1947. She died in 2000. Bill worked for Smart Chevrolet for 35 years as a Federal Compress and Warehouse mechanic, then 12 years with the Arkansas Department of Correction. He served as a Pine Bluff city councilman and Jefferson County justice of the peace for 20 years. His son stated: "He had a strong faith in Jesus and they met Thursday." The last of 12 children, his survivors include his son, William A. "Bill" Brookshire (Tammy) of Flippin, Ark.; daughter, Susan Brown of Alaska and grandchildren, Jason and Aaron Brown. Services are Monday, 2 p.m., Ralph Robinson & Son Chapel. Visitation is Monday from 1 p.m. until service time.
