Oma Alveene Watson Mason

Oma Alveene Watson Mason, age 95, of Norphlet, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 15, 2014. She was born on October 28, 1918, near Athens, Louisiana to Gus Napoleon and Minnie Baker Watson and grew up in Ringgold, Louisiana. She graduated from Louisiana Tech University and was the first Miss Louisiana Tech in 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Malon Watson; sisters, Mildred Crump and Clotiel Houston; along with her loving husband of 71 years, Donald A. Mason. After World War II, she and Donald made their home in Norphlet, Arkansas, where Oma taught school for many years, along with being very active in the First Baptist Church there. She taught Adult Ladies Sunday School for years, sang in the choir, was a leader in the Women's Missionary Society and Vacation Bible School programs, as well as, involvement with Delta Kappa Gamma, a teacher's society. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Donna and Lawrence Harrison, Steve and Mary Mason and Tim and Rhonda Mason. She has eight grandchildren, Laurie Key and husband Tim, Larry Harrison and wife Kim, Lane Harrison and wife Christin, Tammy Brantley and husband Chuck, Tracy Wallace and husband Paul, Thad Mason and wife Cindee, Madison Mason and Meredith Mason. She has 16 great-grandchildren, Rachel, Claire, Luke and Lauren Brantley, Samantha, Sydney, Cy and Sadie Wallace, Grayson Hurst, Drew and Delany Mason, Erin and Harrison Key, Halle Harrison and Joshua and Bethany Harrison. Oma's devotion to her family and church was evident throughout her life and the wonderful family legacy she leaves behind is a testimony to this. Oma was always sending cards, flowers, gifts, food and making friendly visits to those in need. She was a dedicated prayer warrior for so many and her life of service through her love for Christ touched many lives. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2014, at Young's. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church Norphlet with pastors Doug Wills, Lane Harrison, and Lawrence Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. In addition, the family would like to express their appreciation to Timberlane Health & Rehab for the care they provided.
