Mava Reed Brown

Our beloved mother, Mava Reed Brown, passed away October 21, 2014 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. She was born in Cabool, Missouri, September 21, 1915, to Charles Edward Reed and Eliza Caroline (Daily) Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Brown of Little Rock;, three sisters, Merle Burge of Kansas City, Velma McMurtry of Springfield, and Opal Hoots of Cabool; five brothers, Gene, Owen, Lee, Marvin and Gerald Reed. She is survived by her son, David Brown and his wife Kit, of Maumelle; grandchildren, Laura Marroquin and her husband Jesse of Plano Texas, and Bill Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Harrison Brown, Ryan Elizabeth Brown-Mereno, Andrew and Christopher Marroquin. Upon Mava's marriage and move to Little Rock, she and her husband became members of the Highland Heights Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, which later succeeded into the Parkway Place Presbyterian Church. Mava and Edward taught Sunday school for many years and she took her turn as "Secretary of the Circle", a ladies bible-reading group where lifelong friends became inseparable! Mava also assumed duties of "taxi" for elderly friends who could not easily get to church or quilting. She started her working career at Gus Blass Department Store on Main Street. She was later hired as a Deputy Clerk at the Pulaski County Circuit Clerks office - her name still remains on Titles throughout the Little Rock area - and finished her government career in the Assessor's Office. Mava is remembered, with great warmth, for her exceptional cooking for church suppers and family-holiday get-togethers; her beautiful quilts and afghans; and by all family and friends for her unbeatable, unstoppable joy of life and pure love of a good joke as proven by an unmatchable sense of humor. She traveled through the U.K., Europe, and the middle-east. Can't you just picture her riding a camel in Egypt?? She DID that!! Mava also thoroughly enjoyed bus tours, not only to Alaska, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, and various and sundry parts or this beautiful country of ours, but also she flew out to Hawaii!! Mava also loved summertimes with her family and friends at the Oktoma Club. Her last trip was to Presbyterian Village, Little Rock, where she spent the remainder of her life. Visitation will be held Friday night, from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m., October 24, at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home, 5800 W. 12th St. Chapel Services at will be held 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home, after which the procession will depart for Roselawn Memorial Park.
