LT. COLONEL DAVID SAVAGE SR., (Retired) departed this life Sept. 1, 2014, at age 66. He was the fifth child of Dr. Elder Raymond Savage, Sr., and Lee Ollie Savage who preceded him in death. He enjoyed a successful dual career as an officer in the Arkansas National Guard and professional sales executive with companies such as IBM, Southwestern Bell, State Farm and the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. He ended his career working at the United States Pentagon Army Action Center/Crisis Action Team in Washington, DC. His career achievements include: Elevated to Lt. Colonel (2002) Man of the Year, 100 Black Men of the Delta (1993), Salesman of the Year, Southwestern Bell (1988). David was ordained minister at his childhood church, Rosedale Church of God in Christ, where he also served as a trustee and guitarist. He also served as the administrator for the J.O. Patterson Fine Arts Orchestra for Church of God in Christ and as a volunteer on the Greenville, Miss. Arts Council. He attended Horace Mann High School (1965,) Officer Training School (OTC) (1976), University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff School (1986) and United States Army War College (1997). He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jo Ann Fountain Savage; four children, Angella Rotunda Savage, Atlanta, Ga.; David Eugene Savage Jr. (Stacee), Bridgewater, Mass.; Madeleine Savage-Townes, Memphis, Tenn.; John Edward Savage, Washington, DC; five grandchildren, Chelsea Skye Savage, Kalyn Elizabeth Valencia, Isaiah Ronald Savage, Jack Christopher Valencia, Maggie E'Leese Townes and four siblings, Raymond Savage Jr., Ruth Brown, Deborah Braxton (Samuel) and James Savage. David leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to one of the following organizations the Alzheimer Association of Arkansas, Disabled Veterans of America or Rosedale COGIC Memorial Scholarship Fund. Family Hour: Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at Rosedale COGIC, 4100 Ludwig Street, LR. Funeral: Monday, 10 a.m. at Holy Temple Cathedral COGIC, 1322 South Pulaski Street, Little Rock.
