Floyd Hurt Fulkerson III July 17, 1950—Dec. 3, 2015. Floyd departed from Chicago December 3, on his most spectacular trip yet. He was born in Little Rock to Floyd Hurt Fulkerson II and Roberta Dortch Fulkerson, and raised on the Baucum Plantation near Scott, Ark. He attended high school at Woodberry Forest, in Virginia. Floyd served as a Page in the US Senate for Arkansas Sen William Fulbright in 1968. He graduated from Columbia University in New York City with a degree in Art & Architecture History in 1972. Floyd's love of modern art was nurtured by his Aunt Virginia Dortch Dorazio, who introduced him to many of her artist friends whose work is in the collection at the NYC Museum of Modern Art. He had a voracious appetite for learning. In his early twenties he took a road trip from Ireland to India, gathering adventures that fueled his love of travel, history, anthropology, food, art and people. Among his unbounded interests, Floyd was a flight engineer & instructor, a surgical technician, lampshade designer, house builder, pecan orchardist, gardener and artisan with all things food. He lived half of his life in his beloved Chicago where he worked at the Chicago Board Options Exchange and wrote the Options Toolbox along with many other Options Trading learning materials. He sold Oriental Rugs, was a docent for the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Foundation in Oak Park, Illinois and was a supernumerary on stage at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Floyd cut a wide swath with his desire to share with people the many things he enjoyed. Sadly, Floyd's time here with us was suddenly cut short by stroke, surrounded by loving friends and family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta. We are blessed to have known a gentleman such as Floyd and will sorely miss his delicious cooking, enchanting storytelling and loyal friendship. We are all looking forward to hearing Floyd's accounting of his latest journey. Survivors include: Floyd Hurt Fulkerson II (Brenda), Katherine Matthews, Baucum Matthews, Justin Matthews, Alice Matthews, Ann Fulkerson, (Doug Brown) Quinn Brown, Lillian Brown, Roberta Binder (Andrew). Please join us for an informal gathering of Floyd's Arkansas friends on Friday December 18th, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Zin Wine Bar, 300 River Market Ave, Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to The Lyric Opera of Chicago at: Lyric Opera of Chicago Attn: Donor Records 20 N. Wacker Dr., Ste. 860 Chicago, Ill. 60606.
