Our beloved mother and grandmother, Marilee Suzanne "Sue" Mason went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 13, 2015. She was born February 13, 1929 in Traverse City, Mich., to Floyd J. and Vera M. Cooper. She was raised in Indiana and, after graduation from high school, entered nursing school and became a Registered Nurse. She joined the Air Force and it was while stationed at Scott Air Force Base that she met the love of her life, Bobby Miles Mason. They married in June, 1952 and were inseparable until his death in December 2006. She worked in many areas in her capacity as a nurse and retired from her job with the state of Arkansas in 1992. Sue was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jean Smith. She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra K. Short and Beth A. Hall; her son-in-law H. K. Short, M.D.; and five grandsons, Adam (Amber), Clay, Jake and Nathan (Monica) Short, and Zachary Hall as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Every child should be so lucky to have a mother such as ours. She was our best friend, our biggest ally, and was the one who was always there with a shoulder to cry on or a smile and word of encouragement when you needed it most. We loved her dearly and life will not be the same without her. Our hearts are broken. The family would like to thank the physicians and nursing staff at St. Vincent CHI North for their compassionate and dedicated care of our mother. Services will be held at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home on Thursday, December 17 at 2 p.m. with interment immediately following. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 16 from 6 – 7 p.m. Please share your memories of Sue with her family on the online guestbook at www.griffinleggettresthills.com.
