Emogene Rhodes Crowder

On the morning of Feb 1, 2015, Emogene Rhodes Crowder passed away at the Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Emogene was 92 years old. Emogene was born on April 18, 1922 in Poyen, Arkansas. Her parents were George and Daisy Rhodes. Mrs. Crowder was a faithful Mom and worker. During World War II she worked in Jacksonville, Arkansas manufacturing ammunition for the war. On Thanksgiving Day in 1953, she married Hallie Macon Crowder and moved to Leola. During the 1950's, 60's, and early 70's she worked as the communities seamstress making many types of dress clothes and even a wedding gown for her friends in Leola. Later in the 1970's she worked briefly for West Bend Company in Sheridan, Arkansas before retiring. She continued to live in Leola until failing health forced her into Assisted Living Facilities in Malvern in the summer of 2009 and Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 2012. She was a faithful member of the Leola Missionary Baptist Church in Leola and also a member of the Eastern Star. She was very faithful to her family working long hours both in the home and her outside work to provide the best she could for her husband and son. During her later years she enjoyed attending the Senior Citizens Center in Sheridan and playing games with her friends. Once she entered the Assisted Living facilities she loved to play bingo, take walks, and follow the Razorbacks basketball and football teams and Cardinals baseball on TV. Emogene was preceded in death by her parents George and Daisy Rhodes, her husband, Hallie Crowder, Brother Woodrow Rhodes, Sister Ruth Rhodes and one infant grandson, Mason Penn Crowder. She is survived by one son, Garry and his wife Joan of Arkadelphia, Arkansas one step-son, Charles Crowder and wife Betty of Camden, Arkansas; grandchildren, Dr. Michael Crowder of Seattle, Wash., Karen Taylor of Hot Springs, Ark. and Preston Crowder of Arkadelphia, Ark. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Leola Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Stan Parris officiating. Burial will follow at Leola Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to Leola Cemetery Association, c/o Jerry Sullivan, 6370 Hwy. 46 S., Sheridan, Arkansas 72150.
