Gerald Farris, 88, of Sherwood, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015. He was born September 26, 1926 to Birdia Barentine and Otha Lee Farris. He was a loving husband and father. Gerald or "Peewee" to his friends was a WWII veteran having served four years in the United States Navy and retired after 45 years from the North Little Rock VA Hospital. Gerald had an admirable work ethic. After working the nightshift at the hospital, he found time to grow his own lawn care business, work on automobiles, care for a garden and still make it to baseball practice with his boys. Gerald devoted most of his adult life to the young people in the Sylvan Hills/Sherwood community. He was an outstanding baseball coach, mentor and Godly role model for all. In their retirement he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and vacationing at the beach with his wife. Thank you for providing such a loving Christian example for your family and all those touched by your life. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 55 years, Martha Sue Farris; three sisters, Mildred Crace Moore, Iva Lee Crace and Betty Jean Blount. Gerald is survived by his children, Cathy (David) Hicks, Sandra (Joey) Parker and Don (Katherine) Farris; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living, staff in ICU at Baptist Springhill Hospital, Dr. Bevans, Dr. Pierce, Dr. Rasheed, and Staff at Hospice Home Care. Memorial may be made to Hospice Home Care, 2200 South Bowman Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211 or Alzheimer's Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sumner Cemetery.
