Frederick Bolton Warner Jr.

Frederick Bolton Warner Jr., English Professor Emeritus of the University of New Mexico, died January 4, 2015 in West Palm Beach, Florida after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Dianna Collier and daughter Kathleen Wright Warner and son Christopher Dylan Warner. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas December 3, 1935 to Fred, Sr. and Esther Gammon Warner. Growing up he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and a 1953 graduate of Little Rock High School. Fred attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville earning a B.A. in European History in 1957. He received an LL.B at The University of Colorado in 1959, his M.A. in English at the University of Arkansas in 1962 and PhD in 19th century British literature at the University of Illinois in1966. He coauthored two anthologies of A.J. Liebling's work, published numerous articles, and taught at UNM either full or part-time for 30 years. In addition to British literature, he taught some 20th century American fiction, plus critically acclaimed films from John Ford Westerns to American and European Film Noir. Fred's travels took him as far North as Moscow and as far South as Machu Picchu. He traveled extensively in Europe and lived in Florence, Italy for six months. In addition to reading, he enjoyed Spanish bullfights, Italian opera, and European art museums and architecture. His personal library would rival any comparable scholar's. Fred's funeral was held in West Palm Beach January 9, 2015.
