Vernon Gene Stidham

Vernon Gene Stidham, age 74, of Kingsport, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at Nova Rehab & Health Care in Weber City, Va. He was born in St. Paul, Va. and had resided most of his adult life in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas holding B.S. degrees in Business and Psychology. Vernon never met a stranger and loved to hold an intelligent conversation. He deeply loved his family and many friends. His greatest joy in life came from teaching ball room dancing. He received numerous awards as an instructor and dancer. Vernon loved a good home cooked meal and was of the Presbyterian faith. He retired as a salesman with Smith Construction Company in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; William and Gladys Stidham and his brother; Bill Stidham Jr. He is survived by his brother; Jack Stidham and wife, Geneva. Nieces; Julie Stover and husband, Forest and Sheila Strong. Nephews; Steve Stidham and wife, Jana, Toby Stidham and wife, Ramona and Eric Stidham and wife, Samantha. The family will greet guests and share memories on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7 p.m. in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gary Addington officiating and Fred Addington will deliver the eulogy. The Poff Family will provide the music. An entombment service will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at 12 noon at Oak Hill Chapel Mausoleum. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those attending the entombment service are asked to meet at Oak Hill Funeral Home no later than 11:45 a.m. Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services, 800 Truxton Drive, Kingsport, is honored to serve the family of Vernon Gene Stidham.
