Irene Marks

Irene C. Marks, 96 of Alexander, flew into the arms of the Angels January 23, 2015. She was born November 20, 1918 in Cleburne County, living most of her younger years in the Good Springs Community. She was a member of the Good Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Irene was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis J. and Leota Cathey; her husband, Hubert H. Marks; brother, Lloyd Cathey; and sisters, Adell Dennis of Arizona and Odell of California. Known to everyone as Granny, Irene was loved by everyone who met her, and her door was always open to anyone who wanted to visit. Granny worked the daily crossword puzzle and read her Bible daily throughout her life. She had a large garden every year, canning and freezing whatever she didn't give away. Granny loved to crochet, and spent most every evening making afghans for family and friends. She was fiercely proud of her ninth grade education and her family. She took great delight in her great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and many of them have fond memories of her teasing them with the threat of being placed over her "checkered apron" if they misbehaved. Survivors include her daughter, Patsy M. Sturch and son, Henry Michael Marks, both of Alexander; grandchildren, Donna Renea Landreth of Bryant; Russell Sturch (Anita) of Benton; DeLane Besancon (Jeff) of Benton; eight great-grandchildren, Jaclyn Littles, Brandy Himes, Somer Kean, Lorie Bray, Kimberly Dunlap, Justin Sturch, Dakota Besancon, and Trent Besancon; eight great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Clive Bogard of Idaho. Graveside services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pine Crest Cemetery with Bro. Doug Heathcox presiding. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Aloca Pines Health and Rehabilitation for their wonderful care of our beloved Mother and Granny.
