Autha Janelle Scoggin Williams

Mrs. Autha Janelle Scoggin Williams, 89, passed away peacefully at an Augusta, Ga. Hospital Sunday, November 1, 2015. She was born May 20, 1926 in Dierks, Arkansas to the late Authur H. and Selma Lewey Scoggin. Mrs. Williams graduated from Dierks high school and received her BA in Library Science from East Texas State University. She worked until retirement as a Librarian for the US Government holding positions in Texas, Virginia, New Jersey, Kentucky, Panama, Georgia and finally at Fort Eustis in Newport News, VA. After retirement from Civil Service she became a licensed real estate agent. She moved to Aiken, S.C. in May 2014 and resided at Pepper Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was an active member of DAR, Daughters of the Confederacy, Soroptimist International, Pilot Club International and was of Protestant faith. Mrs. Williams was predeceased by her husband, Henry J. Williams. She and her husband were avid travelers and collectors and long time supporters of Florida Gator football. She was also an avid genealogist and visited most court houses and many cemeteries throughout the South and Mid Atlantic tracing her family history. She is survived by her two sisters, Helen Janice (Eddie) Bender, Carrollton, Texas, Norma Jeanette Williams, San Antonia, Texas and a brother, Donald H. (Becky) Scoggin, Aiken, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shiners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607. Her remains will be laid to rest beside her husband in Day, Fla.
