Janet Eloise Parmelee Bondurant

Janet Eloise Parmelee Bondurant died peacefully on Monday, November 16, 2015, at her Asheville home, Arbor Terrace. She was born in Helena, Arkansas, on June 26, 1920, to Eloise Woodrow and Louis Ray Parmelee. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Jean Bradley, her brothers, Louis Parmelee and Bruce Parmelee, her husband, Reid Bondurant, and her beloved son, James Sims McElduff. Janet lived in Wynne, Arkansas, where she worked as an executive secretary for the Arkansas State Highway Department and served as organist at the Wynne Presbyterian Church for 24 years. After her retirement, she returned to Helena, married Reid Bondurant, and made a happy home there until her husband's death. She moved to Asheville in 1996 to be near her son. Janet was an avid gardener, an enthusiastic reader, a committed volunteer, and an accomplished musician; a woman of good humor, curiosity, creativity, and great faith. She was a lifelong Presbyterian, a lifelong Democrat and served every community of which she was a part with love, laughter and music. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Lee Fisher and husband, Mike; her special friend, Paula Fisher; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Triplett; her daughter, Ellen Wood McElduff and husband, Eric Overmyer; her grandsons, William Michael Fisher Jr., James Benjamin Fisher, John Nicholas Fisher, and spouses, Glynna, Courtney, and Suzanne; her granddaughters, Ellen Elizabeth Fisher, Lily Xiaoxia Parmelee Overmyer, and Katherine Yingchen McElduff Overmyer, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 23, at 11 a.m. at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 789 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, N.C. 28804. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Irene Wortham Center, Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, and Wynne Presbyterian Church.
