Catherine Truesdale McClaugherty

CATHERINE TRUESDALE MCCLAUGHERTY, 88, of Glade Spring, Va., passed away on Aug. 31, 2015 in Little Rock surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 20, 1926 in Camden, S.C. to Thomas T. and Susan Emily Brewer Truesdale. Catherine grew up Rock Hill, S.C., and attended Winthrop College. She married Frank Shannon McClaugherty on July 23, 1949, in Rock Hill. After living in Front Royal, Va. they relocated to Glade Spring, Va. where Catherine lived and raised her family for over 54 years. She volunteered with the Abingdon Auxiliary Pink Ladies at Johnson Memorial Hospital, served as a Girl Scout Leader, was President of the College Community Club, and was very active in her church, the Old Glade Presbyterian Church in Glade Spring. In 2008 Catherine and Frank moved to Little Rock, Ark., to be near her daughter and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Frank. She is survived by her son Thomas McClaugherty, and her daughter Susan Kella and her husband David Kella. She is also survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Matthew McClaugherty, his wife Julie, daughter Marin; and son Maddox; Andrew Kella, his wife Amanda, and sons Jack and Davis; Ashley Goss, her husband Chad, and daughter Adeline; and Mark Kella, his wife Taylor, and son Hayes. Her quick wit was recognized by all and especially by her grandchildren in the past seven years of living close to them. Over the last several years Catherine was cared for by a number of special care-givers while in assisted living including Doris Durand, Deauna Flowers, Ameer Hinnant, Mike Philson, Rhonda Shorter, Jeff Tucker. A special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Hospice Home Care of Arkansas who cared for Catherine in her last days. A graveside service will be held in Kershaw, South Carolina and a memorial service will be held in Glade Spring, Va.
