Evelyn Borden Usrey went home to be with the Lord on September 3, 2015. Evelyn was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on September 22, 1924. She grew up during the Great Depression when times were hard and people depended on each other. Evelyn accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12 and grew in her relationship with Him over the next eight decades. She graduated from Somerset High School in Somerset, Massachusetts and then moved to Kittery Point, Maine, working across the bay at the Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, New Hampshire during the early years of WWII. She joined the Navy in June, 1945, serving as a corpsman in the WAVES until June, 1946, when she was discharged due to limits of service placed on women at that time. Evelyn married a Naval officer, Frank, on April 20, 1946. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage until his passing in 2007. Frank and Evelyn raised their family mostly in Texas. When he retired, they spent 19 years traveling in an RV through the United States, Canada and parts of Mexico. In 2010, she moved to the Good Shepherd Ecumenical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she lived until her passing. Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank, son, Michael, parents, Clinton Borden and Edith Borden Wood, sister, Alice and brothers, Charles, Ernest and Robert.
