John Edward Slaven, 73, passed away September 8, 2015 at his home with family beside him. John put family first and treasured his 9 "perfect" grandchildren. He enjoyed his years as a pathologist at PLA Baptist Hospital with his friends and partners and his years as a pathologist in Fayetteville NAPA. John loved First United Methodist Church, the Bible group and the choir. He had his "special" friends, the woodworking buddies. He especially relished being outdoors, photography and with his buddy going to the Grand Canyon, skiing in the Rockies, hiking at Crested Butte, fall in Carbondale and relaxing at Pawley's Island with all the family. "I loved life and family. I have many wonderful memories to last a lifetime. My message to you is to Enjoy all of life while you can." He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rebecca; three children, Stuart, Rebecca (John) Gilliland, Elizabeth (Nick) Gordon, and those "perfect" 9 grandchildren; Sydney, Cate, John and Andrew Slaven, William Hudson and Rebecca Jane Gilliland, Charlie and Lucy Gordon and two sisters, Mary (Everett) Hawks and Sara (Hal) Brown. A celebration of John's life with be on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. A visitation will be held Friday, October 2, 2015 at the family home from 4 to 7 p.m. and then following the service on Saturday. The family gives thanks to all the support we have had on this difficult journey. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 723 Center St., Little Rock, Arkansas.
