Franklin Elliott Hancock

Franklin Elliott Hancock, 78, of Mountain View, Ark., died on March 21, 2016 at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark. Elliott was born on Aug. 10, 1937 in Sedley, Va. to Benjamin Franklin and Virginia (Williams) Hancock. Elliott was a graduate of Randolph- Macon College and Duke University and worked as a Methodist minister and teacher for several years before moving to Arkansas to join his former college roommate in a dulcimer-making venture. Elliott worked at the Ozark Folk Center for 30 years as Assistant Craft Director, Music Director and Assistant General Manager. In his retirement he was the producer of the radio show KFFB at The Ozark Folk Center and enjoyed spending time with his family, birdwatching, photography, reading and his much loved pets. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan (Zimdars) Hancock, his daughter Willow Fitzgibbon (Sean), his son Benjamin Hancock, his sister Margaret Baugham (Bobby), his sister-in-law Janis Dolphin, his nephews Bob and Michael Baugham and his nieces Marilyn Tomasic and Kamala Dolphin-Kingsley. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mountain View. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Elliott may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mountain View and/or The Stone County Humane Society.
