Aretha Dabney

Aretha Dabney was born December 3, 1923 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late William and Joanna Dabney. She was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 5:30 a.m. surrounded by her loving family. She accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend T.G. Sims. She was a faithful, devoted, and loyal member; with a life time tenure of the New Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Dunbar/Horace Mann Alumni Association, RSVP of Central Arkansas Organization, East Little Rock Senior Center, and the Little Rock City Mission Society. Ms. Dabney was united in Holy Matrimony to the Late George Harvey and to this union three beautiful Daughters were born. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Archie Little John, William Dabney Jr., two sisters: Lela Mitchell, Millie Tyson, and one daughter: Mrs. Delores M. Long. She was employed with Teletype/AT&T Corporation for over 25 years until she retired 1988. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Ms. Doris J. Littles and Mrs. Brenda J. McKeever of Little Rock, Ark.; one sister, Ms. Ardimese Sherman of Little Rock; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and sixteen great-great-grandchildren and a host of nephew, nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends. The family would like to thank the University of Arkansas for Medical Science Staff as well as St. Vincent's Hospice Services for their excellent care of Ms. Dabney throughout her illness. Family hour will be held Friday, August 19th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 S. Chester St., Little Rock, Arkansas 72202 (501) 372-1305. The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 20th at 11 a.m., at New Heborn Missionary Baptist Church, 7615 Woodson Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209.
