Frances Eleanor Shirley

Mrs. Frances Eleanor (Tansey) Shirley died peacefully in the care of Crossroads Hospice of Memphis, on Saturday evening, Jan. 2, 2016. She was 97 years old. Mrs. Shirley was born in Van Buren, Ark., March 20, 1918, to Wright and Bess Chambless. She is predeceased by her husband William Ogden Shirley, a loving sister and a brother-in-law Sue and Zack Weston Turner, and a brother Buddy Chambless of Van Buren. She is survived by two sons, Michael Ogden Shirley and his wife Betty of Dover, Ark., and William Wright Shirley and his wife Linda of Germantown, Tenn. She also leaves six grandchildren, Weston Ogden Shirley, John Michael Shirley, Tim Shirley, Tamsey Shirley Hillsabeck, David William Shirley, and Susan Shirley Hurt, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Tansey, as she was known by all who knew and loved her, was an avid gardener, wonderful cook and a life-long bridge player. She spent many years fishing and camping with her family and also enjoyed playing golf. She studied at the University of Arkansas and at Agnes Scott College. There will be a memorial service in the Chapel at Fairview Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fayetteville Public Library, 401 W.
