SHELBY HARGROVE went to be with the Lord on Jan. 20, 2016. He was born on March 21, 1939 in Hunter, Ark. to Harold and Myrtle Brown Hargrove. Shelby was a jovial person who had a childlike love for life. He found entertainment in the simple things of life. A dependable hard worker, he learned his work ethic on rice and bean farms in Hunter, Ark. He began a 20 year career at Mohawk Rubber Company in West Helena. That job afforded a good life for raising a family and fueling his hobby….drag racing. Blue printing an engine and then hearing it roar to life was the stuff of champions. When Mohawk Rubber Company closed, Shelby turned a hobby into a new career. He enrolled in Phillips County Community College and graduated with a degree in automotive mechanics. He taught himself new methods of wrenching out a little more "push" from every engine he raced. Stephanie sat on the steps waiting on her daddy to "bring home the trophies". He would get out of the car and raise the trophies and once again be the hero in her life! That 1957 Chevy "Shelby's Folly" brought home many good memories. Shelby is leaving a trail of friends that reaches across the country. His memory will linger a lifetime in the hearts of those who he touched. We did not "lose" him because we know where he is…..with his Creator! Shelby is preceded in death by his parents and one son James Dean (Scooter) Hargrove. He is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Ann DeBerry (Ron); four grandchildren, Joseph Aaron Hargrove, Tiffany Ann Bowman, Ryan Caleb Andrews, and Christian Michael Hall; three great-grandchildren, Isiah Ethan Winstead Hargrove, Brooklyn Ann Bowman, and Katelyn Jane Bowman. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Rd. North Little Rock, Ark. 72117, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 25, 2016 at First Assembly of God in North Little Rock at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Hunter, Ark. Please leave the family your condolences on Shelby's online guestbook at www.griffinleggettresthills.com.
