MARILYN JOYCE HAGBERG died in Little Rock, Ark. on June 8, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 2, 1927 in East Alton, Ill. and is preceded in death by husband, John Robert Hagberg; parents, Herman and Velma Elliott; brother, Robert Elliott; and grandson, Christopher Rima. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Ill. in 1948. Upon graduation, she moved to Portland, Ore. and began working at the VA hospital where she met and married her husband, the late Bob Hagberg. They lived in Alaska, Elgin, Ill., and Tulsa, Okla., before settling in Little Rock in 1967. She retired as a school nurse for the Little Rock School District after a career in nursing that spanned nearly 50 years. She held many volunteer jobs throughout her career. She was an active member of Highland Valley United Methodist Church, the Highlander Sunday School class and Mary Martha Circle. She loved spending time with family and traveling. She is survived by daughters, Laura Rule, husband Chris, Jane Aston; sons John, wife Tina and Robert, wife Lucy; sisters-in-law: Judith Elliott, Laura Stephens (Steve), Tekla Becker, and Muriel Carmer; granddaughters: Rebecca Bailey (Justin), Muriel Schrepfer (Blayne), Emily Hagberg; and grandsons: Elliott Hagberg, Andrew and Bryan Huddleston; great-granddaughters: Avalynn Rima, Isabella and Gabriella Bailey; and great-grandson, John Christopher Bailey. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Highland Valley United Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service at 11:00.
