Arnold "Arnie" J. Habig, Col. (ret.) U.S. Army, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018 with family by his side. Born January 23, 1934 to Margaret and Bill Habig. A graduate of Alfred University (NY), he had a distinguished 30 year military career, with tour of duties included SETAF in Italy, Johnston Atoll, Vietnam, Korea and several stateside posts. After retiring from the army, he worked for DHS in Arkansas for 10 years. Although a native New Yorker, Arnie considered Arkansas his home. His first assignment, he was sent to Little Rock during the Central High integration crisis of 1957, where he met and married the love of his life, Jean Magee. They enjoyed 60 years together. In his retirement years, he contributed countless hours to the Downtown LR Community Development, Friends of Lake Ouachita, AARP tax preparation, and IC Catholic Church. He was an avid deer hunter in the fall, while summer time was spent camping and boating with family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his wife, Jean, children, David Habig, Gillian Carrington, Michele Christensen (Gerry), four grandchildren, Cody, Ashley, Malia, Tanner and great-grandson, Parker; his sister, Marilyn and twin brother, Bob. A visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2018 followed by a rosary service at 7 p.m., at Smith – North Little Rock Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Chapel Cemetery.
