Lonnie Wayne Meredith, 78, of Sherwood died early Monday morning at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock after bravely fighting cancer for more than 7 years. He was born in Clarendon to Ray Lee Meredith and Beulah McArthur Meredith who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his twin brother, Ronnie and brothers Al and Bill along with sisters Doris, Bonnie Sue and Mary Joyce. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Richey Meredith; Daughter, Melissa Fail (Mason) of Searcy; Son, Todd Meredith of Orlando, Fla.; Grandson, Cassidy Fail (Hannah) of Rockwall, Texas; granddaughter, Savannah Fail of Searcy; Brother, Dan Meredith (Carol) of Durand, Mich. along with many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends that he loved dearly. Lonnie worshiped with the North Pulaski church of Christ. He loved the church and his brothers and sisters in Christ. Lonnie retired from the Arkansas Army National Guard at Camp Robinson with over 30 years of honorable service. He served as a medic, recruiter and retention NCO. After retirement he would often drive back to Camp Robinson and reminisce about his time there. He loved the Guard. He will be remembered for his love of God, love of family, great sense of humor and amazing hugs. Visitation begins at 9 a.m., Friday, December 7 at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home, service begins at 10 a.m. Burial will be at 11 a.m. in Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery.
