JOHN A. "ZAN" DAVIS IV, 62, died at his home on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Zan was born in Fayetteville, Ark., in 1956, and lived in Pine Bluff from 1958-1969 before moving to Little Rock. He was a graduate of Parkview High School, and after graduating from Hendrix College, he attended the University of Arkansas Law School at Fayetteville. As an attorney, Zan was associated with the Attorney General's office before joining the firm of Whetstone and Whetstone. In 1988, he began his own private practice, and in 1989 was awarded the Golden Gavel by the Arkansas Bar Association for his work as chairman of the Arkansas Workers Compensation Institute. In 2009-2010, he served on the Editorial Board for the Arkansas Bar Association Handbook. He practiced law up until Oct. 2017. Preceded in death by his father, Jack Davis, and brother, Phil Faulkner, Zan is survived by his daughter, Anna; his parents, Jim and Joyce Faulkner; sisters, Amy Parker (Greg) of College Station, Texas, Brianne Bush, Lisa Breau (Randy), Sue Faulkner and Alex Davis, all of Little Rock; brothers, Austin Franks (Dede) of Little Rock and Jason Davis (Mary Ellen) of Black Mountain, N.C.; step-mother, Jessica Davis; eleven nieces and nephews and his beloved dog J Fred Muggs. Among his favorite things to do, Zan loved spending time with his family, boating and motorcycling. He once piloted his own craft across the Gulf of Mexico, where he spent three years experiencing the cultures of Central American countries. Services will be held on Monday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church. The family wishes to thank Dr. Rodney Davis, Dr. Aranataukis and the staff at UAMS for their compassionate care of Zan, with a very special thank you to Arkansas Hospice.
