Geraldine June Witherspoon, age 90, died at Mountain Home, Arkansas, September 27th, 2018. She was born June 7, 1928 in Durango, Colorado to Walter Reece Deer and Mary Ellen Betzer Deer. She grew up in Huntsville, Arkansas. She attended John Brown University, the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, and she graduated from the University of Central Arkansas, Conway, in 1975 with a major in Fine Arts. On February 20, 1949, she married Dr. Robert Paul Witherspoon, who was a long time psychology professor at the University of Central Arkansas. He predeceased her in 2009. She lived in Conway, Arkansas from 1955 until 2016. Her last years in Conway were spent at College Square. The family thanks College Square for their loving support of her. In 2016, she moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas to be near her daughter Elizabeth Tallman. Her daughter Elizabeth and her granddaughters took loving care of her for those years, and her family is grateful to them and also to Care Manor of Mountain Home Arkansas. A faithful Christian, she was very active in her community and in her church. She was a founding member of Harlan Park Baptist Church, and she served as a church volunteer there in many roles. She was a leader in the Bible Study Fellowship program, and mentored younger Christian women. She was also active in the UCA Faculty Club and was its president in 1967-1968. She held various offices in the Junior Progressive Club of Conway. Survivors include her daughters, Susan Witherspoon Nowlin of St. Louis, Elizabeth Witherspoon Tallman of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Kathleen Witherspoon McLarnon of Terrell, Texas, as well as 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She died strong in her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and in the hope of the resurrection. Visitation will be Tuesday October 2nd from 12-2 with a memorial service to follow at 2:00pm at Griffin Leggett Conway Funeral Home, 1751 Dave Ward Dr., Conway Ark., 72034. 501-327-5000. The Rev. Dr. B Gary Nowlin, an Episcopal priest and her son-in-law, will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Harlan Park Baptist Church in Conway, Arkansas, or Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock Arkansas.
