Henry "Hank" Edward Schlapkohl, 91, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died April 26, 2019 at Circle of Life Hospice. He was born on November 1, 1927 in Lone Tree, Iowa to Edward James Schlapkohl and Zora Fesmire Schlapkohl. Hank received education in public schools in Iowa and North Carolina, graduating from Lone Tree High School in 1946. He worked in and later managed a Drug Sundries store in Riverside, Iowa. There he met and was united in marriage to Maxine Kiefer in October 1950 at St. Mary's in Riverside, Iowa. He entered the Army in December of 1950. He served in Germany as a member of 3rd Armored Division – The Army of Occupation from 1951 through 1953. He was honorably discharged September 1953 as a Master Sergeant. Hank joined Proctor and Gamble and was a member of the startup of the Toilet Goods Plant in Iowa City. He served in several positions at the plant retiring as consignment warehouse manager in June 1985. During those years he was involved in several areas of civic responsibilities including Cub Scout Leader, Boy Scout Leader, Babe Ruth Baseball Board and member of the Southeast Iowa Boy Scout Board. After retirement he and Maxine moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where he was involved in many areas of service at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church and other volunteer work. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, golf (which he called work) and visits with children and grandchildren. He was a member of prayer groups, the Elks Club and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Hank is survived by his wife, Maxine Marie Schlapkohl of Bella Vista, Ark.; children, Cynthia Schlapkohl of Racine, Wis., Thomas Schlapkohl (Lisa) of Dallas, Texas, David Schlapkohl (Joey) of Grapevine, Texas, Daniel Schlapkohl (Sara) of Bloomington, Ill.; brother, William Schlapkohl (Virginia) of Lone Tree, Iowa; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Helen Lenz. A visitation will be held at 9 a.m., Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m., Friday, May 3rd at St. Bernard Catholic Church, One St. Bernard Lane, Bella Vista. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Scholarship Fund. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
