Doris Lee Allen Pine, age 98, beloved Mother and Mamaw, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock. She was born March 26, 1921 in Houston, Texas, to Alonzo Lee Allen and Hattie Rowell Allen. She graduated from Benton High School in 1939 and attended Henderson State College, while teaching elementary school at Pleasant Hill near Hot Springs. On Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1946 she married her beloved husband, Chaplain Ernest Pine, in Memphis, Tennessee. They would spend a twenty year career in the Air Force, traveling extensively, before retiring to Hot Springs. After the move to Hot Springs, Doris went to work for the Lake Hamilton School District, setting up the first library in the elementary school. She loved her work with the children. Doris enjoyed reading and gardening as well as preparing and serving meals to the needy at Jackson House in Hot Springs. A devoted wife and loving mother, she placed the needs of her husband and children before her own and was a wonderful role model for her two daughters. Her family is blessed to have sweet memories of her quiet contentment, wise counsel, loving service, and faithful prayers. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernest Pine, and her brother, Jeff Allen. She is survived by her daughters, Joy Kuntz and Jan Paulus (Tom); her grandchildren, Jennifer Monk (Pledger), Lori Walsh (Dave), Matthew Paulus, and Stephen Paulus (Mary Catherine); and 13 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 1, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Scott Gallimore, of Piney Grove United Methodist Church, officiating. The family wishes to thank the staff of Parkway Heights Assisted Living and three very special caregivers: Sherry, Jo, and Shannon for their compassionate care. We will always be grateful. Memorials in her memory may be made to Piney Grove United Methodist Church, 2963 Airport Road, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71913; or Jackson House, 705 Malvern Avenue, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71901.
