Herschel Eldon Alford

Herschel Eldon Alford, 94, of Cabot, died August 19, 2019 at the Ottenheimer Arkansas Hospice Wing of Saint Vincent Hospital in Little Rock. He was born March 30, 1925 in the Johnson Chapel Community near Des Arc, Arkansas to the late George and Emma Alford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; Travis Alford, Bobby Alford, Francis Lee and Jean Wiggs. Herschel was married to Mary Jean Keathley for 68 years before her death in 2012. Together they raised four daughters and one son, Sherrye (Darrell) Tullos and Mary (Ricky) Gibbs of Cabot, Susan (Terry) Maxey of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Judy (Howard) Martin of Heber Springs and Dennis (Kelly) Alford of Scott, Arkansas. The Alfords were blessed with 21 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Herschel was a skilled tool and die maker. Throughout his years, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, and hunting, as well as playing cards and dominoes alongside his wife with friends and family. He will be remembered as a faithful church-goer and one who was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends, family or neighbors. A service of remembrance will be 2 p.m., Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Cabot. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:30-2 p.m. prior to the service.
