Maurine McBryde Hughes, of North Little Rock, formerly of Pine Bluff, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019 in the comfort of her home and surrounded by those she loved. She was 84 years old. Born April 29, 1935 at Palmyra, she was a daughter of the late Ural McBryde and Janis Moore McBryde. She was reared and educated at Sherrill and was a graduate of Altheimer High School, where she played on the basketball team. For three years, she worked at the base exchange while her husband was stationed at Pearl Harbor. She later returned to Pine Bluff where she resided for over 40 years. Mrs. Hughes was a cook in several cafeterias in the Pine Bluff School District and retired after 20 years of service. She had attended First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Her husband of 49 years, Roy G. Hughes, preceded her in death on May 16, 2012. Survivors Include three daughters, Jan Moore, Vickie Byrd, and Cheryl Renee Barnes; two granddaughters, Rachel Abbott (Cory) and Ashley Barnes; two great-granddaughters, Selah and Faith Abbott; a sister, Eloise Glover; a nephew, Bill Glover (Paula); and Patrick McCurry, who she loved like a son. Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, 2019, beginning at 1 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Brother Bill Hilburn officiating.
