Charles Robert Shireman

Charles Robert Shireman, 88, went to his eternal home on Dec. 10, 2019, at Baptist Health-Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Brenda Shireman and Tammy Edmondson; son, Stephen Shireman; father, Eugene Jasper Shireman; mother, Jacie Ellen Shireman; and sister, Ellen Jean Etter. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Betty Shireman; daughter, Charlene (Andy) Reeves of Humphrey; sister, Francis Geraldine Scarborough; granddaughter, Kelly (Bryan) Houghton of Humphrey; three grandsons, Brian (Stacey) Reeves, Jacob Edmondson and Stephen Edmondson, all of Stuttgart; and four great-granddaughters, Hailey Houghton, Jacie Houghton, Cadence Reeves and Charlee Reeves. Charles was born Oct. 29, 1931, in DeWitt where he grew up and met the love of his life and they moved to be lifelong residents of Stuttgart. In 1951 he enlisted to serve in the United States Navy where he was stationed in San Diego, Calif., for four years on the USS Seminole "aka" 104 Naval Ship. After serving his country, he returned home and became a master carpenter for 63 years where he built many homes and businesses for families in Arkansas County. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter and loved to share the outdoors with his family and friends. He always enjoyed planting a garden and working in his yard. For many years he spent countless hours decorating and lighting up his yard at Christmas for all the children to enjoy. He was also a member of Central Christian Church of Stuttgart where he served as an elder. He left his mark on the hearts of many with his legacy of hard work, honor and integrity. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Heath Loftis, are 2 p.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will be in DeWitt City Cemetery.
