Brother Leon Burl, 82, MSGT USAF-retired, of North Little Rock, was born to Vick and Angeline Burl on December 20, 1936 in Readland, Arkansas. The family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas in 1944. He attended Elementary and High School in Little Rock graduating from Horace Mann High School in June, 1956. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in South Africa, French Morocco, Philippine Islands, Republic of Thailand, Europe, California, New Mexico and South Dakota. While in Europe he met and married the love of his life, Erika Eudenbach of Solingen, West Germany in 1966. To this union one child was born. After retiring, Leon graduated from Park College with a degree in Business Management and started his second career with the North Little Rock Housing Authority (HUD) and worked as a Hotel Manager until 2008. His peers respected him for his Job Knowledge and Leadership ability and sought his advice on many occasions. He truly loved God and his Job. He was loyal member of the Little Rock Air Force Base Protestant Chapel Family, sat on the Parish Leadership Board and served as head usher on the 11 a.m. service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vick and Angeline Burl, sisters, Ruth Ann Carpenter, Ozeeda Christian, Alice Rainey, Ida Mae Harris, and Genoba Goods; by his brother Tom V. Burl and cousin Raye J. Montague. Brother Leon leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Erika Burl, one daughter, Gabriella Laster, son-in-law Darron Laster, and grandchildren, Landon and Arden Laster of Sherwood, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation Family Hour will be held Monday, February 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home, 7700 Hwy 107, Sherwood with Graveside Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery with Honors by the US Air Force.
