Danny "Dan" Weathersby Sr., 65, of Little Rock was called home in the twinkling of an eye Friday, December 28, 2018, while vacationing with his love in Savannah, Georgia. He led the revitalization as president of the Daisy Bates Museum Foundation Board of Directors from 2016 to present, and his input will certainly be missed. He also handled the property maintenance, all photography, and online correspondence. He contributed immeasurably to create a viable museum for visitors from the world over to enhance their experience there. The Bates Home was placed on the "United States Civil Rights Trail" under his tenure. He secured furnishings that allowed visitors to conduct meetings and to host classes for youth and locals to learn of the home's historical value; enlarged the scope of the Annual Daisy Bates Banquet including speakers such as a representative from the original Edmond Pettus Bridge March and others; held training for board members and volunteers; assisted with weekly bus tours and conducted interviews with students who participated in the tours. Dan displayed a constant desire to ensure the home as a landmark in Little Rock's South End Neighborhood. Dan, along with the Board of Directors of the L.C. & Daisy Bates Museum Foundation, were actively working on a brick project at the museum and a fence installation to preserve the grounds and maintain the history of the museum. He is survived by his adoring wife of 23 years, Jimmie Medley-Weathersby of Little Rock, Ark.; brother, Thomas Smith, Aurora, IL; seven children; and a host of grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Obsequies will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 2501-2617 South Main Street. There will be a family hour at the church at 10 a.m. immediately before the service. Open visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from noon-5 p.m. Services entrusted to Walton Gateway Funeral Chapel, 2405 South Gaines Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72206, (501) 376-7188.
