Udell Ernie Schroeder

Udell Ernie Schroeder passed away on Jan. 28, 2019, to be with his Lord! Udell was born Jan. 23, 1933, to Arthur E. and Inez Schroeder of Stuttgart in the old Drennan hospital. He was married to Betty Jean Floyd in Biscoe, Ark., on Aug. 2, 1951. He then began working on the family farm until his retirement at age 65. During this time in the winter months he enjoyed working as a duck caller on Peckerwood Lake, Lion Oil Company and Circle T. Later he owned a duck-hunting business in Casscoe, Ark., called Prairie View Ducks. While living in Stuttgart for 20 years he built another duck hunting lodge called White River Lodge at Casscoe on the bank of the river which he and Betty operated for 10 years. During the off-season months Udell and Betty opened a restaurant three days a week in the lodge. They owned and operated a convenience store in Stuttgart called Schroeder's Kerr McGee for another 10 years will still running the family farm. Udell was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ulm for over 50 years serving as elder, mission board, Sunday school teacher, and choir and in other areas of the church. For many years Betty and Udell enjoyed going with their family to the White River. They after retired he lived in Stuttgart five years and then moved to Hot Springs Village where he was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he was a faithful member including being active in the church as a trustee, evangelism committee, Bible class, memorial garden, choir and helping out wherever he could. While living in Hot Springs Village, he enjoyed playing golf, tennis, hunting, fishing, ping pong, mahjong and later going dancing. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 61 years, Betty; parents, Arthur E. and Inez Wafford Schroeder; and two brothers who died in infancy. He leaves behind his four children, Lindy (Jim) Rabeneck of Stuttgart, Ronny (Jennifer) Schroeder of Hot Springs, Randy Schroeder of Benton and Brian (Penny) Schroeder of Stuttgart; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart. A celebration of life will be at Faith Lutheran Church in Hot Springs, 1196 DeSoto Blvd., on Friday, Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Benke officiating. Burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart at 3:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be grandson, Branden Leder and Lance Leder of Fayetteville, Andrew Schroeder of Stuttgart, Jonathan Schroeder and Christopher Schroeder of Fountain Lake and Greg Kenzie of Ferlow. Honorary pallbearers will be the men who golfed with Udell in Hot Springs Village.
